Homework #4

Chapter 3:
                        1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 23, 24, 29

Hints/comments:

3.1: Start from the definition of Cv in terms of U and T. For part b and c of this question, you'll need the relation:

3.24: There are a couple of ways to do this. In general what you need to do is integrate C(T) dT/T from 0 to 298.15 K. Use a cubic function for C(T) between 0 K and the lowest temperature data point (like a previous homework problem) and then either fit the remaining data to a polynomial function or interpolate it with a program like MathCad. Then integrate. Remember not to use the point at 161 K where CS2 melts and C(T) is discontinuous. The handbook value is So = 36.10 cal/K.
